EN16 unexpected encoder behaviour

Day 1 here with my new EN16 and BU16. The EN16 encoders alternate between 2 different CC numbers - for example I can turn the bottom right encoder and it will show CC 47 value 81, but the next turn will show CC 63 value 82.

This happens with all of the encoders, until I push one of them to trigger a note on/off event. After that, all encoders appear to behave as expected, so for example the bottom right encoder will stay on CC 47.

This behaviour can be seen both in the MIDI Monitor in the editor software, and in my standalone MIDI Monitor app.

In addition, snapping the EN16 to the side of the BU16 sometimes results in a connection, but most often not. The lights on the BU16 all turn green, presumably to show that it’s recognised another device being connected, but the lights on the EN16 stay off, and the device doesn’t appear in the editor software.

To be honest it hasn’t been a great first experience. Am I doing something stupid, do I have a faulty unit, or something else? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi there!

An encoder sending out two different CC messages unprompted really is unexpected and does suggest there is something wrong with the module or its configuration.

We usually troubleshoot issues like your over email, if you’re okay with that please send us a mail to [email protected]!

Hi - thanks for the quick response!

I changed the USB cable and now the unit is behaving normally. Going back to my original cable repeats the problem. So I guess it’s the cable, although I have absolutely no idea why!

Are there specific cables that you recommend? And could the cable also be the reason that I don’t always get a successful connection when I connect the 2 units? Something related to not enough power reaching the first unit?
