Grid disconnected in Mac MIDI Studio

I have a Tek2 and a EF44. Both are properly showing up in the Grid Editor, but suddenly neither are showing available in my Mac’s Audio/MIDI (MIDI Studio) setup. In the MIDI Studio setup, the Grid device is greyed out as if it is not connected at all.

Intel Mac, running Monterey OS.

I have this also sometimes - I just disconnect/receonnect and sorts itself out generally.

Are you using USB hubs for connecting to your Mac in these instances?

yes, I am.
this is just filling my 20 chars

If the modules disappear from Grid Editor, it’s a disconnect or the module froze up. You can check if it’s frozen by moving the elements and checking if the corresponding LED changes or not.
In everyday operation, disconnects should only happen if the module reboots or similar. If you experience there, write us a mail at support@intech.studio and we’ll try and sort it out.

But if the modules only stop sending MIDI, and are still visible in Grid Editor, you’re dealing with a USB-hub situation.

Ths for the info. Do you have any hub recommendations - I’m using an Elektron Overhub which has a controller per channel and is generally regarded as being one on the best hubs to use.

I’ve only ever had 1 disconnect when using the modules, where I’ve come back after a period of time and one of the modules has been flashing purple with no user intervention.

In that case, it’s not the hub’s fault. Purple flashing will happen from buffer overflow - too much data coming in-out. These are something we’re trying to better on the modules, since they usually happen on large setups where all modules constantly communicate with each other.

As a mitigation if you don’t plan to use MIDI from your DAW, I would suggest turning off MIDI sent to the modules. IF you need MIDI RX, you can restrict it to specific modules with the function midirx_enabled().

ok, thx - unfotunately I rely on MIDI coming back from the DAW to update the state of the controls.
