Hi-
I updated to Grid Editor 1.5.5 and firmware 1.3.1 on my modules.
Now, nothing transmits MIDI data unless Grid Editor is open in the background.
I had this happen with the nightly releases…but now this is the official version.
Is this the intended behavior…that Grid Editor has to remain open in the background?
Hi,
Thanks for reaching out. This is not intended, I will look into it!
It was indeed a bug that we accidentally introduced while refactoring! Please check the current nightly firmware version, it should be fixed.
It will be in full release soon!
Greetings!
Updated to nightly FW, and MIDI still only transmits when the Editor is open.
(The update also reset my device to default, luckily i had a recent save of my pages)
(ESP32)
It’s even worse. With the new FW when i load my saved profile, it works only as long as i don’t press STORE. After i press STORE, it resets the device to default again.
Oh no! Gald I wasn’t able to figure out how to get the nightly FW update.
I have that option activated in the settings in Grid Editor but it has not prompted me to update to the latest nightly. I wonder why? Do you go to github and manually download the latest FW or do you wait for Grid Editor to prompt you? Not that I’m going to update it to the latest nightly after what you have posted.
I will just keep Grid Editor open in the background for now with Grid Editor 1.5.5 and FW 1.3.1
just bought an EN16 a month ago, so i only had to do one update, and it was through the Editor.
But I was waiting for this encoder fix, so i was impatient and manually updated it by copying the nightly files from github
Noting that I have the same issue as the original post. Waiting for a verified fix before updating anything! I have two EF-44’s that now won’t work unless Grids is running. Looking forward to the next release cheers!
I have the same issue! I thought I was going crazy, I though there was something wrong with my gear. Looking forward for fix, crazy how one firmware bug can brick the whole setup, can’t perform now
I updated to 1.3.2 and see the same issue
However, at least you don’t have to keep Grid editor opened
The issue on encoder modules is that during NVM Store operation the firmware crashes. Can you please check if my theory is correct by manually uploading this firmware: Release Grid v1.3.3 (2025-05-11-1441) · intechstudio/grid-fw · GitHub
thanks @suku, it worked!
I have two EN16, left has 1.3.3 hotfix you shared, right one had old firmware
after store, left one kept my config while right one got reset
pls note that grid editor thinks thinks that it is 1.3.2 (at least it shows so)
UPD: Midi issue is fixed!
1.3.3 Works here great so far.
- MIDI transmits without Editor open
- Store button works as expected!
Fixed here for me too!
I’m running Grid Editor 1.5.6 and FW 1.3.4 on a PBF-4 and EF-44 modules.
Tested with Grid Editor closed and the MIDI Monitor application is showing MIDI data being transmitted. I had to factory reset the PBF4 in order for this to completely work but all good now…back to how it used to be…but with some of the fixes employed!
PROBLEM PERSISTS…
I spoke too soon.
I powered off my studio last night…and then when powering up today, the PBF4 module does not retain its settings and needs a full erase and firmware update in order to reload my settings on to the module.
There is still something wrong with 1.5.6 and FW 1.3.4.
My EF44 module is fine. The PBF4 is not ok.
