Using Knot with Grid + other MIDI controller at the same time

I have a Knot and a few Grids connected to a synth. All works well, with the Grids sending cc data to the synth. Now I want to add a second MIDI controller, say a MIDI controller keyboard. Can I simply plug the keyboard’s MIDI out to the Knot’s trs input, and expect that the controller input will also be passed on to the synth? Or will the keyboard input only be passed back to the grids? In other words, I am not sure where the trs MIDI in on the knot sends its data…to the synth or to the Grids?

To attempt to answer my own question, I hooked up a very simple patch and tried to see if the Keyboard notes will merge with the Grid control data. It seems to work, the synth tracks the notes played on the keyboard controller as well as responding to Grid’s MIDI cc messages, even if I send them at the same time. So does Knot act as a MIDI merge as it seems to in this simple patch, or is it possible that I might run into problems for more complex patches?

Sorry for multiple unnecessary messages, but I just found a page on Knot that indeed says it can act as a MIDI merge if it is in Blue mode, which by chance I was. So my question is now fully answered. I did not see this info on the Knot manual pages, but issue solved and I am again impressed by how awesome all of these Intech Studio products are!

The best problems are solved problems!
I’m glad everything works now!

For posterity’s sake:

Pressing the small button on Knot while it’s powered on switches its MODE (indicated by LEDs changing color).

  • BLUE MODE makes the TRS IN and OUT ports act as a MIDI through.
  • GREEN MODE makes TRS IN and OUT act independently, best used for bi-directional MIDI.
