Hey Guys,
I bought a PO16 controller to use it with VCV Rack 2 and faced a serious problem with VCV rack constantly crashing.
Configuration:
Intech PO16 via USB C connected
VCV Rack 2.5 or also 2.4.1 testet
VCV Rack default patch
Intel Mac Book Pro 16 Zoll 2019 mit Intel core i7
VCV Rack crashes immediately after connecting the PO16, independent of the patch loaded. Connecting the PO16 to the Mac when VCV Rack runs lead to the same crash. The PO16 is working on the Mac in general in other software or MIDI monitoring tools. Interestingly connecting the PO16 to another Mac and using the MIDI tools of the Mac over a network session allows to use the PO16 in VCV rack. Using it over another Mac is possible but very unusable for me.
Does anybody experience the same or even have an idea how to solve it?
It is currently a known issue that VCV crashes with Grid. We have reported it personally to VCV and they have confirmed the bug and are currently working on it. Our last contact has been more than a month ago now, I will send them a message to get and update about this fix.
Sadly they have no public platform where you could follow their progress on bug, otherwise I would link it here.
Hereās what I got after checking back with VCV support about our inquiry:
We have recently had a couple users who report that enabling āInput Monitoringā security access for the VCV Rack app in macOS system settings resolves the issue for them. We have asked several other users who reported the problem in the past few months to try this and are awaiting their responses before concluding that this does indeed resolve the issue. If you could try it and let us know if it works there, it would be appreciated.
If you could try this solution and see if it helps you, it would be valuable feedback to us and them, but aside from this, I have no updates.
I am running into the same issue, running the current firmware on my Grid controllers. Iāve enabled Input Monitoring for VCV Rack 2 Pro and it still crashes upon launchā¦ so no, this does not resolve the issueā¦ but good thought.
I also reached out to their support team today and have been sharing crash logs with them. Iām happy to share them with Intech or make a connection as well.
Which version of VCV Rack did you experience this?
After I enabled input monitoring for VCV, ESP-32 variant units I have at hand donāt crash on VCV Rack Pro 2.5.2, Iām on M1 mac, running the arm version.
Iām currently runningā¦
VCV Rack 2 Pro, 2.5.2
MacOS 15.2 with latest patches
MacBook Pro, 16-in, 2019, Intel Core i9 (which may have a different USB controller than Apple M based systems)
Grid Editor 1.3.8, E-32 blocks v1.2.39
Iāve also tried the following ārefreshā with no luck:
Disable Input Monitoring for VCV
Delete VCV App & app support files
Empty trash
Reboot
Reinstall VCV
Enable Input Monitoring
Connect single block directly via USB-C to USB-C as ONLY peripheral connected.
Attempt to launch VCV
ā¦ CRASH
VCV 2 Pro does still work as a plug-in, so thereās a way around itā¦ but certainly not ideal. Iāve also tried other settings like full-disk access, but still no luck.
