Assigning Midi CC per button press to Wheel on VSN1, MidiRx does not immediately follow

I am using buttons on the VSN1 to setup Midi CC functions on the wheel.

E.g. my DAW is setup to have Ch 10 as control channel, and Tempo as controller 30, while sending a command on CC 19 makes it resend all current controller settings.

Registered global variable wheel_cc on Element 14 (System)

Button 0 push:

wheel_cc = 30
event_trigger(8, 0)
midi_send(9, 176, 19, 1)

Element 8 Setup:

self.cc = wheel_cc

Element 8 Endless:

Self variable cc = wheel_cc

Midi Parameter 1: self.cc

Midi sync value and sync LED selected

Endless mode 0

There are other buttons that set the wheel_cc to other parameters.

This works to assign a custom cc value by button press.

But it does not update the MidiRx cc value until the wheel is moved, thereby sending the last value (from a potentially different previous button cc parameter) to the DAW. E.g. arpeggiator gate might have last sent value 30 to the DAW, and then pressing button 0 to change the tempo it sends 30 first when the wheel is moved.

I am out of ideas on how to set the initial value automatically. The DAW resends all values at Button 0 push as requested through the midi_send (I checked that works, since other push buttons update), but the MidiRx for the wheel appears to update only when the wheel is moved.

How can I fix this, I assume I’m not the first person with this problem.

There is a post about assigning Midi CC for the Wheel via button press, but this does not address the initial value problem:

Please don’t reference Discord, I don’t do Discord.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Just to mention, got a great hint, there’s a profile in the profile cloud: 1 knob, 8 functions

That was a good starting point. Essentially, they do not change the Midi handler of the wheel (like with my original approach), but instead use the button’s Midi handler and update the button value with the wheel value when active. That circumvents the issue I had entirely.
